Advocacy
NAMI Frederick County supports NAMI Maryland’s important advocacy work. NAMI Maryland is a strong voice on mental illness, carrying out ongoing advocacy for a public policy agenda to improve mental health services throughout the state, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, and support effective treatment and recovery programs.

NAMI Maryland Advocacy Day
February 10, 2026
NAMI Frederick joined NAMI Maryland and other NAMI Maryland county affiliates to share our stories about mental illness and advocate for legislative changes to improve mental health care laws and policies in Maryland.

Local Representatives
Advocating for mental health resources locally is imperative to being able to support those who need help in our community. Local budgets can impact Crisis Intervention Team availability, crisis housing, judicial and other necessary mental health resources and support. To help, contact us.

State Legislators
NAMI Maryland leads the charge on prioritizing statewide legislative initiatives and lean on advocates in Maryland counties, such as Frederick, to help share our lived experiences with mental illness to demonstrate how vital these initiatives are to their constituents.

Congressional Leadership
NAMI also supports legislative reform at the national level. As we share our stories, our lived experiences, including the challenges and triumphs, our voices have impact on Medicaid, Housing, Mental Health funding and research, etc. Learn more @ NAMI.org
NAMI Maryland provides SMARTS for Advocacy Training free of charge to help us share our stories with lawmakers to encourage better mental health policies and funding to provide mental health treatment and programs across the state.
NAMI Frederick volunteers can take the free training and help us advocate locally and at the state level to help advocate for improvements in mental health public policies and laws.
