Crisis Support

Need Immediate Help In An Emergency?

If you or a loved one is in immediate danger calling 911 and talking with police may be necessary.

It is important to notify the operator that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for police officers trained to assist people experiencing a psychiatric emergency or have a crisis intervention team accompany the police or sheriff's deputies.

Preparing for a Psychiatric Crisis
NAMI Navigating a Mental Health Crisis Resource Guide with separate download buttons for English and Spanish versions of the guide.

Like any other health crisis, it’s important to act quickly and effectively in a mental health crisis. With mental health conditions, it can be difficult to predict a crisis. A crisis can occur even when treatment plans are followed and mental health professionals are involved. Unfortunately, unpredictability is the nature of mental illness.

That’s why NAMI created this guide, so people experiencing mental health emergencies and their loved ones have the information they need to be better prepared.

Now more than ever young people are struggling with mental health. The NAMI Teen & Young Adult HelpLine is ready with resources and support to address their needs. Let them know that help is just

a text, chat, or phone call away.
